In the wake of the US election people have been reporting an increase in racist remarks and actions. As Canadians it's easy to sit on the outside and watch. By easy, I mean that we can choose to think that this isn't our problem or that it won't affect us. I don't mean that it will be easy to accept. I don't normally follow politics but this is too much to ignore.
I'm always hearing things like "It's 2016", which usually means it's long past time to start being inclusive (not just stopping exclusion). But based on appalling reports coming from social media it seems any progress we made is actually the equivalent of sweeping under the rug.
There will always be racism as long as it is endorsed and reinforced by parents. It is up to our generation to break the cycle.
